Abilene, TX— In a game that pitted the defending State Champions in 2A DI, the Meyer Ravens, taking on the Panhandle Panthers; a team who has made it to the State Semifinals for the first time in school history. The winner of this contest would punch their ticket to the AlamoDome in San Antonio for a shot at the Title in their class.
In the first quarter, Panhandle’s Broxton Robinson scored the first six points for the Panthers as they asserted some dominance early en route to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter over Meyer. Jackson Small of the Ravens scored seven of their first nine points in the quarter.
The Panthers started the second tilt on fire as Luke Schmucker, a 2027 Guard, splashed a three-pointer to help the Panthers extend their lead to 31-16 at the half. Panhandle’s Jacob Herzberg played well down low and had a few putbacks in the second for his team.
Panhandle didn’t let up in the third quarter as 2026 Guard, Caden Armes caught fire and scored eight points in the session and thebPanthers extended their lead to 48-29 after three; virtually assuring their first State Title game appearance.
In the last eight minutes of the game, Panhandle started the quarter in a 11-0 run to push their lead out to 59-29 before Meyer scored their first bucket of the fourth quarter with 3:58 left in the game. Panhandle cruised to victory after that with a final score of 59-33. The Panthers will travel to San Antonio, just like their girls did for State and play Thursday against an opponent TBD. Hopefully, the Panthers will win their first boys title in school history as well. Meyer finishes the season as the State Semifinalists as they won the title last year.
