Fort Stockton, Texas— Plainview took the trip to Fort Stockton High School for their Area Round Matchup against El Paso Hanks and a potential trip to the Regional Semifinals at stake on Monday, February 17th.
The Lady Dawgs started out strong against Hanks with four straight points coming from Mady Williams to start the game before Hanks scored five of their own to take a 5-4 lead before Plainview scored six points to make the score 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second, Plainview attacked the rim more frequently as Maribel Montelongo hit four free throws in succession to give the Lady Dawgs a 14-7 lead and eventually pushed their gap to 17-10 before Hanks scored on back-to-back buckets to close to a 17-14 deficit.
Montelongo finished at the basket with another tough attack and Williams scored on a pull-up from 15 to give Plainview a 27-21 lead over Hanks at the half.
In the third, Hanks went on a 7-2 run to close the gap to two points before Montelongo made two free throws and gave Plainview a 32-28 lead with 4:58 left in the quarter. Daisy Fernandez hit a three for Hanks to cut the lead to one for Plainview at 32-31 before Rogers converted two free throws to extend Plainview’s lead to 35-31, with 3:19 remaining in the third stanza. Aliey Kerbo hit a big three pointer, along with Nails two free throws to give the Lady Dawgs a 44-34 lead with 1:38 left and the quarter ended with Plainview leading, 44-35.
The final tilt started with a layup from Nails and Williams to give Plainview a 48-35 lead with 6:58 left in the game. And after another clutch three from Kerbo, the Lady Dawgs led, 53-39 with 5:19 left. The game eventually ended with Plainview winning, 60-47 after a dominant performance! Plainview will take on Argyle at Haskell HS on Monday, February 17th.
