When district realignment was announced last February, we all knew District 3-5A would be one of the most competitive districts in the State. That statement couldn’t be more truer as we have two weeks left and Monterey, Tascosa and Amarillo are at the top with one loss.

The top ranked team in the state in 5A, the Monterey Plainsmen, control their own destiny as they will play #4 Tascosa on Tuesday at home and then #5 Amarillo the following Tuesday. Amarillo and Tascosa also call their own shot; pertaining to district seeding.

The interesting race will be for the fourth seed as Lubbock High and Lubbock-Cooper are tied with 5-6 records, while Plainview is one game behind those two for the last spot in the playoffs. So, who goes big school and who goes small school? Will any of those top three teams in the top five of 5A’s state rankings win the title? Stay tuned for more coverage to find out.
