The Eagles from Roosevelt had a great year under Coach Carter Robinson; who did great in his first year of taking over a program that went to the State Semifinals just a couple of years before. One thing that will be glaring for the “VELT” in 2024 is that they only have four returning starters from last year’s team that went 9-4 and lost to Wall in the 3A DII Regional Round of the playoffs.

One of those returning starters for this year’s team is Senior Nate Casarez; a two-way player that had over 1,000 yards rushing and over 500 yards passing last season. Nate will be charged with a bigger role as he will have to guide this team that is young into the Roosevelt way early in the season before they hit their stride late; like they always do!

Also Keith Lugo will be a pivotal leader for the Eagles this season in the trenches and Lugo will start to garner some next-level attention as he is one of the hardest workers I’ve seen in person and he will maximize on his exposure he gets going both ways this season. Their line is young, but their coaching staff does a great job every season of getting them right— just in time for district play and the postseason.

Their district got a little tougher as they now have Muleshoe in the fold, along with Idalou, Slaton and Littlefield there as well. Their games against Muleshoe and Idalou will be critical for seeding in the playoffs, but it seems like no matter where they are seeded, they still make deep runs in the tournament: that won’t change this fall and if their young guys can grow up fast, they may be in the fourth round.. Again.
Here is Roosevelt’s 2024 schedule below!
