If you didn’t know any better, you would’ve thought the preseason game between the Indiana Fever and the Dallas Wings was a playoff game! There were over 6,200 fans in the College Park Center and the #1 draft pick of the WNBA, Caitlin Clark of the Fever, made her debut as well.

It started off fast for the Fever as they took an early 14-3 lead over Dallas before the Wings settled in and took the lead after the first, 26-23. In the second, the Fever got hot as Erica Wheeler scored eight points in the quarter and Indiana went into halftime with a 48-40 advantage. Caitlin Clark had 16 in the first half to lead all scorers.

In the third quarter, the Wings mounted a rally and cut the lead down to 62-60 at the end of the quarter as their halftime adjustments included slowing the Fever down and making them run crisp sets to score, instead of letting them get out on the fast break as 13 of Indiana’s 15 fast break points on the contest came in the first half.

In the final stanza, it was a back-and-forth affair as there was a total of nine ties and seven lead changes in the game. On Indiana’s second to last possession, Caitlin Clark was blocked on her go-ahead layup attempt and the Wings secured possession with :26 seconds left. After the timeout, Arike Ogunbowale dribbled the ball out and hit a step-back 3-pointer to give Dallas the 79-76 win over the Fever in a hotly-contested preseason game!
Here is the three-pointer that sealed the win for the Wings!
