This game featured two teams that made it to the Regional Tournament in 2023, but this year both teams played a round earlier with a berth to the 2A Regional Tournament on the line.

During the first half, both teams went on runs with New Home going on a 9-4 run to take a 21-16 lead at the half over the Owls. After the half, the game got intense and very interesting. During the end of the third quarter, the Leopards went on a 17-5 run to push their lead to 43-24, heading into the fourth quarter.

In the last period, Reagan County went on a 20-5 run with Kason Brown of the Owls leading the way with 12-straight points: he ended up with 20 of his 25 points in the fourth period as well! With the score, 50-49 in New Home’s favor with two minutes to go, Caleb Cook Stepped up for the Leopards and put in seven-straight points to lead New Home to victory, 59-51! Caleb led all scorers with 33 points on the night and I talked to him after the game to discuss the game and what was needed to close out a great Reagan County team!
I also talked with Coach Abney about his team advancing to the 2A Reguonal Tournament starting Friday at the Texan Dome in Levelland, TX.
New Home will take on Floydada Friday; a team that they defeated last year to advance to the State Tournament in San Antonio.
