With another great season under their belt, the South Eastern Conference is ready to take off in the NCAA Tournament and a plethora of teams have a chance to win it all. Let’s start with a few teams that could get it done.
SOUTH CAROLINA
I think Dawn Staley has a sour taste in her mouth after losing to Texas in the SEC Championship Game and twice on the season. That loss may have knocked them out of the Fort Worth Quad as well. They have plenty of weapons and Tessa Johnson is emerging as a clutch player for the Gamecocks late in the season. Will they make the Final Four again?
TEXAS
I think Coach Schafer has a dangerous squad led by Madison Booker that can really give teams fits with their inside game and defensive pressure. Their x-factor will be three point shooting. If they hit their threes, they are going to be a problem in the tournament and could go all the way.
VANDERBILT
The Commodores came out of nowhere this season and beat teams like Texas and Oklahoma handily! Mikayla Blakes is a certified bucket and when she is on, it’s a problem! They can make a deep run in the playoffs and I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a shot at the Final Four.
LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY
Kim Mulkey last won a title in 2023 with Angel Reese and and a great squad of players. This year’s edition is good; they just can’t beat Texas or South Carolina, who has defeated them 19-straight times. Flau’jae Johnson, a projected top-10 WNBA pick this summer, will have to step up and lead her team the promised land along with Coach Mulkey.
OKLAHOMA
The Sooners, led by Raegan Beers are a very solid team and they have what no one else has in the Country: the freshman player of the year in Aaliyah Chavez. They have shown flashes, including the win over South Carolina that showed the entire Country what they can do when they are clicking! Can it all come together for a deep run in the Tournament?
