Floydada,TX— New Home and Clarendon came into this 2A DI Area Round contest with a ton of confidence as both teams had multiple wins over ranked opponents and were ranked in the season at one point in 2025-26 by the TABC. This game would prove to be a classic that New Home came out on top to win, 57-50

In the first quarter, both teams played to a 7-7 standstill as Presley Smith and Kate Shaw of New Home and Clarendon had five points in the first tilt for their respective teams. In the second quarter, Clarendon outscored the Lady Leopards, 15-8 with eight points coming from Berkley Moore in the period. New Home couldn’t get a rhythm going in the period as they stayed in foul trouble the entire quarter.

In the third, New Home scored the first six points to close the score to 22-21 before the Lady Broncos went on a 11-3 run with back-to-back three pointers coming from Gracie Ellis to make the score 33-24 Clarendon with 3:40 left in the quarter.

After a Lady Leopards timeout, New Home went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 33 with five of those nine points coming from Kirbi Johnson before Kenidee Hayes hit a three to regain the lead for the Broncos before Clarendon took a 39-36 lead, heading into the last stanza.

In the last quarter, New Home came out on fire and went on a 12-2 run to take a 48-39 lead after Presley and Kirbi bit hit critical shots and Kelby Burk hit a three and two free throws in the run. Clarendon fought back to make it 50-46 before Smith hit a few free throws to help seal the win for the Lady Leopards, 57-50 to advance to the Regional Quarterfinals against either Smyer or Sterling City on Monday or Tuesday.

Smith led all scorers with 22 points while Kelby Burk totaled 17 in the win for the Lady Leopards. Kenidee Hayes scored 17 points for Clarendon in a losing effort.
