Woodrow Road, TX— The Christmas break and New Year’s Eve slumber is over and now we’re back to basketball and we had a great one in District 3-5A play when Tascosa, who came into the game with a 19-2 record and 4-1 in district play, traveled to Lubbock-Cooper; who came into this pivotal contest with a 11-6 record and 3-2 in early district play.
Tascosa started the game on the first quarter with a 12-4 lead that was carried by Alex Carter and Devaeh Johnson, who both scored five early in the quarter. Chloe Young hit a three-pointer and the Lady Pirates cut the lead to 12-8 before the Lady Rebels pounced with a 10-0 run to end the quarter with a 22-8 advantage.
In the the second tilt, the Lady Pirates competed and tried to hang, but their depth was tested as multiple Tascosa players scored and contributed to push their lead to a substantial 39-24 lead at the half. The Lady Rebels really dominated the glass on both sides as there were at least eight offense rebounds from the Lady Rebels in the first half.
In the third quarter, Tascosa did not let up as they outscored Lubbock-Cooper, 16-6 in the period and pushed their lead to 25 as they led, 55-30, heading into the fourth quarter. Alex Carter once again started this quarter as she did in the first with two-straight three-point shots.
In the final period, the Lady Rebels finished the contest strong en route to a 73-40 win with contributions from the entire roster including the leading scorer from both teams, Alex Carter; who had 18 points with four three point shots. Devaeh Johnson scored 13 points in the contest as well. Hannah Campbell of Lubbock-Cooper had ten points as she was the only Lady Pirate in double figures on the night. The Lady Rebels move to 20-2 on the season and 5-1 in district play while Lubbock-Cooper falls to 11-7 and 3-3 in district play.
