MY THOUGHTS ON 806 FOOTBALL AFTER TWO WEEKS:
- Lubbock-Cooper Liberty is really good! They have a total team package and are very physical in the trenches.. It’s scary how good they’ll be at the end of the season😳
- Tascosa will get a true test Friday, but they look like the some old Rebels that usually make a deep run into December. Coach Plunk is one of the best HS Coaches in the Country.
- Slaton looks to be the team we thought they could be before the season kicked off: Physical and very fast on both sides of the ball. They just gave Brownfield a 60-piece and only allowed 7 points on the other side 😳
- This might be the year Panhandle makes it over the hump and goes to the State Semis or to Jerry’s World. Coach Ashley has the Panthers humming.. They just beat Stratford, 61-19 last night!
- Lubbock High may be 0-2, but they are giving a championship effort; every play, all four quarters!! Coach Rodriguez should be proud of his team that’s representing the Westerners.. and they only started three Seniors the first two games as well!
- West Plains is the best team in the Region for 4A DI. It’s crazy to think that, barring an unforeseen injury, that West Plains will be taking on Celina for a rematch in the State Semis to see who punches their ticket to the State Title game!
- A lot of teams are stil figuring it out and trusting their processes early in the season. For instance, Monterey has a great offensive line and defensive line, but Coach Sims is bringing along his offensive attack slowly and their skill players are just starting to gel.
8. New Home and Ropes will be fine.. The Leopards are still working on a new offense and Ropes will have to stay away from the injury bug as they looked kind of small up front in their loss to New Home. Coach Ward and Coach Riker both know what they’re doing; they’ll be just fine…
- Some of these 0-2 teams are really in trouble: we can’t lie about that. I feel bad for some of these teams because I know they aren’t going to get any better and there are a slight few of those 0-2 teams that will turn it around;
- Canadian will have another great season; but will it be a State Title season, or will Gunter or Wall stop them again?!?! Coach Cavalier always takes care of business and knows how to get the best out of his players! It will be another season full of fun in the 806.
