USA DOMINATES GERMANY IN TUNE-UP FOR OLYMPICS

With one of the most dominant rosters in history, the United States Women’s team took on Germany this afternoon in their one and only practice tilt before the Olympic Games start in a couple of weeks.

In the first quarter, Diana Taurasi and Brenna Stewart hit three point shots to give the USA an early 6-0 lead before holding a 13-4 advantage, heading into the first timeout. After the break, A’ja Wilson scored on a pull-up to extend the lead for USA to 15-4 with 3:15 remaining in the opening quarter, which ended with the USA up, 22-9 when it was over.

In the second, Kaleah Copper got the scoring going with a tough drive to the basket for a layup and Jewell Loyd hit a three-pointer to give the US a 27-16 lead with 6:31 left in the second frame. After the television timeout, the United Statses found themselves up 34-20 with less than two minutes left in the half after Stewart’s free throws.

After the timeout, Stewart scored seven-straight points to lead Germany, 44-32 at the half. Brenna Stewart had 13 points in the half, while A’ja Wilson scored 10 in the half. The United States also had six three-point makes, heading into the midway point.

In the third, the USA Women’s team started the quarter on a 7-0 run with a three from Chelsea Grey and Brenna Stewart pitched in with a couple of buckets to stretch the lead to 51-33 with 8:24 to go in the third. After a steady few minutes, the lead for the United States ladies was 64-50, going into the last quarter.

Sabrina Ionescu opened the fourth with a three-pointer and the rout was on as the USA won the game, 84-57. A’ja Wilson led the way for the United States with 19 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and two blocks, while Brenna Stewart had 15 points and five assists. The next time the ladies take the court will be July 29th in the Olympic pool play games against Japan.
