As you guys know, the 806 Football season is creeping closer by the day and on August 5th, the two-a-days will kick off and 24 days later, the first opening Thursday of the regular season will commence.
So, for every week of the season, I will take a deep dive into the games and schedules for all the 806 teams I cover— from 5A, all the way down to 2A. Without further ado, let’s dive into week one of the Texas High School Football season.

WEEK ONE: AUG 29-30
Schedule:
5A:
Monterey at Choctaw, OK
Palo Duro at Tascosa (THU)
Amarillo at Odessa (THU)
Lubbock-Cooper at Lovejoy 🎥
Dumas at Caprock
Wichita Falls Legacy at Coronado
In 5A, there are a few games that stick out to me and the main one is Monterey’s road game against Choctaw in Oklahoma. It took a lot of strings getting pulled to get this game for the Plainsmen and it will be a tough test— a test that Coach Judd Thrash will have his team ready for, so expect a great game.
Lubbock-Cooper will also travel five hours away to take on Lovejoy in the Metroplex area on that Friday. The Pirates have some weapons on both sides of the ball, but will have to get solid play at the Quarterback and Cornerback positions to get where they want to go in 2024.
4A:
Jim Ned at Estacado 🎥 (THU)
Lubbock High at Hereford
Plainview at Randall
West Plains at Seminole
Dalhart at Levelland
Bushland at Borger
Canyon at Perryton
Pampa at Iowa Park
It was a great sight to see Pampa’s schedule and Iowa Park as their opponent for week one. Thats how you get better; play the great teams and learn early before you hop into district play. West Plains at Seminole will be another electric game as well as Plainview taking a trip to Randall.
3A:
Idalou vs Sweetwater
Roosevelt at Denver City
Sanford-Fritch at River Road
Muleshoe at Brownfield
Memphis at Dimmitt
Friona at Slaton
Floydada at Tulia
Lamesa at Littlefield
Monahans at Shallowater
Canadian at Elk City
Idalou vs Sweetwater will be a tough early game for the Wildcats and Shallowater’s game against Monahans will be intriguing this season as the Loboes got the best of the Mustangs last season in a game that wasn’t that close. Tulia will have a new coach on the sideline as Fred Jordan takes his first Head Coaching job and we all will be tuned in to see how he does for the Hornets. And we know Muleshoe vs Brownfield will bring the fireworks!
2A:
Shamrock at Sundown (THU)
Smyer at Iraan
Sunray vs Hooker
Morton at Seagraves
Alpine at Wellington
Post at Kermit
Clarendon at Panhandle
Spearman at Gruver
Stratford at Abernathy
Ropes at Hale Center
West Texas at Lockney
Plains at Ralls
Wheeler at Highland Park
SATLCA at Tahoka
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty at New Home🎥
Farwell at New Deal
Texico at Bovina
The New Home vs Lub-Cooper Liberty game has my full attention! Can the Leopards hold home serve against a team that I think will be a lot better than everyone thinks, even though this is their first year of varsity football? Farwell will travel to New Deal and that game will be a slobber knocker and the game of the week may be Stratford at Abernathy— don’t forget that the Antelopes have moved down to 2A DI in classification. Ropes taking a trip to Hale Center will also be an interesting contest!
Private:
Lubbock-Christian vs Wink
This will be Lubbock Christian’s only home game until September 27th, so expect the Eagles to put on a show!
