ROOSEVELT IS PREPPED TO MAKE A RUN IN 2024 UNDER ROBINSON

Lubbock Roosevelt made another deep run in the playoffs last season in 3A DII football with a tough loss to Wall in the Regional Quarterfinals. Nate Casarez led the way as a Junior with over 1,000 yards rushing and over 700 yards passing— which is a big deal in Eagle country as they don’t pass the ball too much.

In 2024, their district changes as Muleshoe and Slaton are in and Abernathy, Stanton and Coahoma are out. A tough non-district slate includes a date at home against New Deal along with a trip to their now non-district opponent, Stanton’s Buffaloes. I went out to Roosevelt and checked out their strength and conditioning practice and they looked strong. There were a few players that stuck out to me and here they are below.

NATE CASAREZ- C/O 2025 ATH

Nate will be counted on to lead this offense and defense in 2024. He holds an offer from Howard Payne and will tally some more during the season for the Eagles. This young man is ready for the load. I love his humbleness, but he is a monster in the pads!

KEITH LUGO- C/O 2025 OL/DL

Keith is highly recommended by his coaches and when I watched him practice he brought the energy and grit on every play. He will play both sides of the ball in the trenches. He should garner some DII/ JUCO interest as he has a high motor! He is 5’10” 215 lbs and built like a tank.

CHRISTIAN CASTILLO- C/O 2025 ATH

Christian will command the all-important fullback and linebacker positions for Roosevelt in 2024. He is very fast, but will also bring the hat on defense to the opponent. He will also be counted on to lead the way for the Eagles. His measurements are 5’9” 170 lbs and he fits perfectly for what Roosevelt does on both sides of the ball.

Another player that stuck out to me was Gavino Webster; a 2027 athlete that tore his ACL last season as a freshman, but looks great now and will be on varsity and another lethal weapon in the veer offense for the Eagles!
