Hale Center, TX— In a game where I thought a blowout was coming, Farwell’s Lady Blue came back and literally stole a game from Hale Center in thrilling fashion to stay tied with Olton in district 3-2A’s standings for first place at 5-1.

In the first quarter, Hale Center’s Lady Owls jumped on Farwell with a 21-6 spurt, with eleven of those coming from 2027 Guard, Anaya Compton: she was on fire the first half as 16 of her 19 points came in that stint.

In the second quarter, the Lady Owls increased their lead to three more points to close out the second quarter with a 36-18 lead, heading into the third quarter. After the halftime intermission, there was a total shock to the system as Farwell came out and really dominated the next 16 minutes of the game.

In the third quarter, Farwell, led by Junior Ava Jaime’s nine of her 21 points total points in the third, cut the lead down eight points to close the gap to 43-33, Hale Center, heading into the last stanza. And that’s when the entire game flipped on its head, as Farwell got hot and the Lady Owls struggled the rest of the game.

The Lady Blue started off the fourth quarter with 13-straight points and took their first lead of the contest with :48 seconds left on a pull-up jumper by Cali Dannelley to give the Lady Blue a 48-46 lead before Hale Center missed their attempt to tie the game and Farwell secured the tough road win, 49-46. That was a great game to see as Farwell didn’t quit; they came out in the second half and turned around their first half performance with great defense and clutch buckets.

Ava Jaime finished with 21 points for Farwell and Anaya Compton tallied 19 for Hale Center in the loss. Olton and Farwell are both tied for first place in the District standings, while Hale Center sits third in the standings. Both teams will be back in action on Friday Night.
