SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE THOUGHTS: WEEK 8

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE THOUGHTS:

WEEK 8 of 806 High School Football

šŸæ šŸæ 😳😳

1.ļæ¼ THE LEGEND CONTINUES TO GROW FOR WEST TEXAS AND CAYDE WINTERS

Now, it was already a legendary statline for Cayde Winters with 375 yards rushing and seven touchdowns in the Comanches 50-49 win over Panhandle, but he did most of that work with a broken thumb that he suffered early in the second quarter of the game… Warrior!!

  1. PALO DURO IS A GREAT TEAM, HOW FAR WILL THEY GO?

I like the Dons, and they have a solid roster full of talented players that won’t give up on a game as they have shown tendencies to let teams hang around; but eventually put them away like their game against Lubbock-Cooper Friday where they had to come back with a minute left to win that game, 36-33 when they were up 21-7 at the half. I’ll have more insight for you guys on Palo Duro once the coaches speak to me: it’s a work in progress…

  1. CEDRIC ROSS IS IN ELITE TERRITORY FOR ESTACADO; HE WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE BEST MATADORS, EVER!

For me to say that Estacado’s Cedric Ross will go down as one of the greats to come out of the E is special in itself considering all the NFL talent that have donned the blue! He had another four-touchdown game in the Matadors win on Thursday and is approaching 30 total touchdowns this season; a feat done once since I have been covering and that was by the All-Time great Wide Receiver from Coronado… Blair Conwright!!

  1. NEW HOME LOOKS LIKE THAT ā€œOLDā€ NEW HOME… AND THAT’S GOOD NEWS!

Coach Ward has New Home humming right now and they are getting better every week while thumping opponents along the way. They beat Floydada, 75-0 Friday and were up 61-0 at the half! That loss to Lubbock-Cooper Liberty in Week One was so far ago, but that’s exactly what the Leopards needed so they could lock in and realize their potential and what they needed to do to get there. A long run in 2A DI’s tournament is coming…

  1. 2-5A DI ISN’T SET YET, BUT WE KNOW THE FOUR TEAMS GOING TO THE DANCE..

With Tascosa’s win over Monterey and the Plainsmen’s earlier loss to Amarillo this season in district play, that secures that Monterey will be traveling to El Paso to play one of their teams in the Bi-District Round of the Tournament. Abilene and Tascosa play Friday and I think that’s for the District title, considering who’s left on those two teams’ schedules and The Amarillo vs Tascosa game will determine the two seed for homefield advantage, and who’s going with Monterey for a game in El Paso

  1. I’M NERVOUS SOME TEAMS WILL MISS THE PLAYOFFS DUE TO INJURY CONCERNS

Abernathy is one of those teams. I know they have multiple starters out and you guys know in 2A those players play both ways so one injury is like two for those squads. Praying for all you teams going through those tough injures!

  1. SOME TEAMS NEED TO STAY FOCUSED THIS WEEK AND NOT LOOK AHEAD TO A HUGE WEEK 10.

Slaton has a huge game against Idalou on Halloween night, but they have Muleshoe first: a team that is looking to secure a big upset win over the Tigers and get a crucial district win. Estacado will have Senior Night and a huge game against Lubbock-Cooper Liberty for the 2-4A DII district title next Thursday night, but will have to go to Borger and Take care of business before all of that. That old cliche is right: One game at a time!

  1. IT’S TOUGH TO GUAGE TEAMS AND EXACTLY HOW GOOD THEY ARE, BUT WE GOTTA GO OFF WHAT WE SEE EVERY WEEK.

Let’s take Hale Center, for example. They lost their first game to a dangerous Ropes team, 33-0 but have won six-straight games by a combined score of 282-8! But, when you dig into their schedule, those teams aren’t too good this season at all. Now, the Owls have a tough game Friday in Sudan and that’s why I’m going: I want to see if this year’s Hale Center team is the truth… Or are they lies… Eli’s… šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  1. IN FOOTBALL AND LIFE, EVERYONE GETS THEIR TURN..

There are some teams that are always great, but are having some tough times this season so far. Coronado is 0-8.. Lubbock-Cooper is 4-4 on the year too! But, then you look at teams Like Lubbock-Cooper Liberty, who is 7-1 and Dalhart; who is on fire this season and have a chance at a district title! You just gotta play hard and let the chips fall where they may: They may fall into the queso, or they might fall on the floor… Who knows!

  1. THIS IS A DIFFERENT TEXAS TECH TEAM, THAT LOSS WON’T STOP ANYTHING FOR THE RED RAIDERS

Yes, Texas Tech lost to a great opponent in Arizona State, but that won’t derail any of Tech’s goals this year: winning the BIG 12 and getting to the College Football Playoff! We need Behren Morton healthy and the defensive backs to lock in! Other than that, we’ll be fine! Wait on it!!

WRECK ā€˜EM!!

Blessed and highly favored
