Week One has come and gone in the 806 and there were some great games that were played including New Home’s huge home-opening win over Lubbock-Cooper Liberty and Stratford’s Elks handling of Abernathy on the road. Here is a recap of week one in Class 2A.

My game of the week in Class 2A was the New Home Leopards’ home game against the Liberty Patriots! This game lived up to its billing as New Home jumped out early with a 21-7 lead that was highlighted by two touchdown passes from Senior Caleb Cook, to his younger brother, Colby Cook.

Liberty looked like they were out of the game until they regrouped and fought hard to make the score 21-14 with 2:30 to go in the game Then Liberty made a push that was highlighted by Levi Walker’s score on a 61-yard touchdown reception on fourth down to make the score 21-20, pending the extra point.

The extra point try was missed and that kept New Home in the lead by one point and the Leopards defense, which was stout the entire evening including Jake Fogerson’s two crucial interceptions, held the Patriots again on four-straight plays to end the game with an epic win, 21-20.
